of Experience Supporting Leadership Decisions Where Risk, Accountability, & People Intersect.

Where strategy meets action:

Building workplaces that truly work!

Strategy is only useful if it holds up in practice. The work I do connects big-picture thinking to real execution through systems that actually get used.

My Fractional COO support focuses on removing obstacles, strengthening communication, and designing workplace strategy that supports people and performance over time.

The approach is built to strengthen leadership judgment, reduce friction, and create workplace systems that work under real conditions, not just on paper.

How I Work

Koehler Consulting works with law firms and professional organizations at moments where performance, people, and pressure converge.

Rather than prescribing solutions or importing generic best practices, my work focuses on making organizational systems visible. Particularly where profitability, compensation, workload, and lived experience intersect.

The distinction between interim and fractional COO support matters.

Interim leadership provides coverage. It fills a seat, stabilizes operations, and maintains continuity.

Fractional COO support provides leverage. It clarifies outcomes, repairs decision flow, and strengthens the organizational architecture that allows work to run better — not simply continue.

My role is to help leaders examine those decisions clearly and without defensiveness, then design structures that align accountability, expectations, and authority with the professional culture they intend to sustain.

YYC

People, Work, & Accountability

Designing how work is structured, supported, and sustained — beyond policies or programs.

  • Clear communication standards and decision pathways.

  • Recruitment and retention architecture aligned with workload reality.

  • Hybrid work design that clarifies expectations, presence, and performance.

  • Performance and mentorship structures that build capability, not dependence.

  • Client and referral relationship systems that support consistency and trust.

Leadership, Judgment, & Capability

Supporting leaders where responsibility, ambiguity, and consequence intersect.

  • Executive and management decision support.

  • Leadership retreats grounded in real organizational constraints.

  • Onboarding and offboarding frameworks that protect continuity and culture.

  • Workshops on judgment, hybrid design, corporate health, and leadership accountability.

Operations, Incentives, & Strategic Alignment

Ensuring systems, incentives, and planning reinforce — rather than undermine — stated values.

  • Right-sizing and organizational planning tied to actual capacity.

  • Compensation and incentive review through a fairness and sustainability lens.

  • Operational systems and tool alignment.

  • Corporate health diagnostics that surface structural risk and pressure points.

  • Strategic growth planning rooted in readiness, not aspiration.

  • Event design and execution where structure, flow, and experience matter.

Facilities & Physical Infrastructure

Designing physical environments that support how work is intended to happen.

  • Office moves, renovations, and space reconfiguration (white box and beyond).

  • Lease review, renewal, and expansion planning.

  • Workspace design decisions aligned with hybrid and operational strategy.

Technology, AI, & Governance

Supporting organizations as they integrate powerful systems responsibly — with judgment intact.

  • IT health checks, software evaluation, and vendor assessment.

  • AI onboarding frameworks and appropriate-use standards.

  • Governance design that keeps accountability, authorship, and consequencehuman.

  • Leadership guidance on AI partnership, boundaries, and organizational readiness.

The goal is not technology adoption for its own sake, but intentional integration —where tools absorb sameness and pressure, and people are returned to judgment, leadership, and trust.

Corporate Workshops

Workshops that Inspire Action

Workshops grounded in practical application, not theory. They are designed for organizations that want clarity that leads to better decision making and engagement.

Each session creates space for honest examination of how work happens, where pressure is carried, and what needs to change for alignment to hold.

  • Leadership, Accountability, & Decision-Making in Complex Systems

A practical workshop for leaders navigating ambiguity, shared responsibility, and high-stakes decisions. This session explores where judgment must remain human — and how to design systems that support, rather than replace, it.

  • Designing Presence, Performance, & Purpose in Hybrid Environments

A grounded examination of hybrid and in-person work — not as ideology, but as design. Participants explore when presence adds value, for whom, and how to intentionally structure work so expectations are clear and outcomes improve.

  • Workload, Capacity, & Sustainable Performance

A candid session on growth, contraction, and recalibration — focused on how organizations make decisions about workload, staffing, and expectations without eroding trust or burning out their people.

  • Culture, Wellbeing, & the Systems That Shape Both

This workshop reframes culture and wellbeing as outcomes of structure, incentives, and leadership decisions — not perks or programs. Participants examine where pressure is absorbed and what that reveals about organizational health.

  • Governance, Onboarding, & Judgment-Led Integration

A leadership-level introduction to AI in professional organizations — focused on responsible integration, clear boundaries, and shared standards. This session helps organizations move beyond silence or experimentation toward intentional, governed use.

When Capacity Goes Quiet

Written for leaders responsible for designing sustainable work. This piece explores right sizing as a lived experience of capacity and architecture, not a headcount exercise, and looks at how quiet role shifts and expectations shape performance over time.

These pieces are written alongside the work, not apart from it. They reflect ongoing thinking about leadership, systems, and judgment as they are lived inside organizations, especially where pressure, accountability, and responsibility intersect.

Some posts are written In Practice for learners and practitioners working through complexity in real time. Others sit At the Table, written for leaders responsible for decisions, standards, and consequences.

Together, they explore how alignment is built, how systems shape behavior, and how tools like AI change the conditions of work.

Stewardship & Community

Koehler Consulting’s work is grounded in long-term stewardship of people, organizations, and the communities they are part of.

My perspective is shaped by sustained, hands-on involvement in professional and community organizations where leadership, equity, access, and accountability are not abstract ideas.

They show up in meetings, in decisions, and in the responsibility to follow through. These experiences shape how I approach my advisory work.

Stewardship is about building organizations that perform well, treat people with dignity, and remain credible to the communities they affect.

  • Serving as President and Past President of the Calgary Association of Legal Administrators, supporting legal administrators and firm leaders through change, complexity, and growth.

  • Contributing as a committee and advisory member with the Law Society of Alberta – Justicia Initiative, focused on advancing equity and inclusion within the legal profession.

  • Mentoring and supporting professionals through the Chartered Human Resource Professionals.

  • Volunteering as a mentor and educator with the Canadian Immigrant Women’s Association, supporting women as they navigate work, systems, and opportunity.

  • Supporting community organizations including Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids and the Calgary Drop-In Centre.

  • Volunteering, serving on committees, and supporting fundraising initiatives with Alberta Theatre Projects, including community-led events.
